what does this mean for president obama? >> well, i believe that, you know, it just speaks volumes to the fact that latinos understand that obama has been there with latinos every step of the way. and, you know, the new tax policy, i mean, he's been talking about -- romney has been talking about his tax policy. we as latinos have children and a lot of us have children and have families. we care about their education. romney just wants to cut that education budget. >> let me ask you about the taxes. do you think the 14% rate going back to a story we covered earlier tonight is a conversation in the latino community? middle-class families? lower income families, is it a fair rate? is this going to hurt him? >> i think here's the problem. most of us would lose our deductions for our kids of $2,000 just so that he can give a $250,000 deduction for millionaires? i mean we're middle class families. it's not going to go over well with latinos. and the latinos that are actually supporting romney better wake up and smell the cafe con

obama will not tell voters that he essentially disagrees with the free marketplace competitive economy this has made the usa prosperous, especially since 1900. governor romney doesn't want to explain why he has changed core beliefs on obartion, health care, things like that. in the end, i am with you, i want honest politicians who explain themselves in a direct way. the guy who does that best tomorrow night will win the debate. and the tip of the day, over the years, we have had problems with the aarp, even though i am a member. on some issues, the group has been partisan left. so when they asked me to talk about "killing kennedy," i had to think about it. would they do an honest job? i decided to talk to them and they did do an honest job. check out aarp.org and type my name. it's an interesting discussion. i think you will like it. thru go. sometimes things work like that. sometimes, they do not. i am debating whether to tell you about one very big-name person who snubbed us... i know you want me to. perhaps even more surprisingly, voters in both states now trust president obama more than mitt romney to turn the economy around. this really isn't looking like the election anyone expected. so what happened? the predominant theory seems to be that mitt romney is an inept candidate, his repeated gaffes have set him back against a weak incumbent. that may be true. the facts suggest something deeper and more important going on. the economic recovery may be a bit morrow bust than we all assumed. the number of jobs created from march 2011 to march 2012 was underestimated by 380,000. taking those new jobs into account he has overseen a net positive 125,000 jobs added to the economy even if you take into account the massive job losses from the financial crisis at the start of his term. on friday the university of michigan's consumer confidence index reached its second highest level in five years. joining us to talk about this is ro khanna, author of "entrepreneural nation: why manufacturing is still key to america's future." deputy secretary in the obama congress. great to have you here. >>
